Sales Strategy Officer

We have been engaged to identify a Sales Strategy Officer for an international trading company with a presence across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.

Reporting to the Head of Business Development in the Nigerian Liaison office, you will be responsible for designing and implementing initiatives that enhance this international brand's sustainable growth in a rapidly growing market. You will own the 360-degree implementation of plans and strategies that develop the business and dominate the market share from inception to delivery operating in a Business-to-business (B2B) and direct sales capacity.

The Sales Strategy Officer is a high-impact role responsible for driving market penetration, revenue growth, and strategic sales initiatives within the chemicals and agricultural sector. This position demands a dynamic professional with expertise in market analysis, business development, and sales execution to accelerate customer acquisition and maximise profitability.

The ideal candidate would be a data-driven strategist who has a demonstrable record of executing sales-oriented projects within the chemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, and multi-sector trading industry either working in a conglomerate or an individual organisation.

We are looking for someone who can translate data into strategy and convert it into tangible and measurable success so a candidate who has certifications in data or is knowledgeable on how to translate market research into tangible sales planning is an extreme advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Strategy Development & Execution

  • Design and implement sales strategies tailored to the chemicals and agricultural sector, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Identify new market opportunities, develop sales forecasts, and create action plans to drive revenue growth.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and customer demands to refine sales approaches.

Business Development & Market Expansion

  • Identify and cultivate high-value business opportunities, expanding the company’s footprint in key markets.
  • Lead strategic negotiations and deal closures, securing long-term partnerships and bulk supply agreements.
  • Develop a deep understanding of client needs and customise solutions that enhance customer value.

Revenue Growth & Profitability Optimisation

  • Drive pricing strategies, cost management, and sales pipeline optimisation to maximise profitability.
  • Collaborate with finance and supply chain teams to enhance sales forecasting and inventory planning.
  • Utilise performance metrics and KPIs to track sales effectiveness and adjust strategies accordingly.

Client Relationship & Key Account Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry players, distributors, and agricultural cooperatives.
  • Implement client retention strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and long-term loyalty.
  • Provide technical insights and advisory services to clients, positioning the company as a trusted partner.

Sales Enablement & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with marketing teams to develop targeted campaigns and promotional strategies.
  • Collaborate with R&D and product teams to align sales strategies with product innovation and development.
  • Train and mentor junior sales professionals, fostering a high-performance sales culture.

Compliance, Risk Management & Industry Regulations

  • Ensure all sales activities comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Monitor and mitigate risks associated with client contracts, pricing structures, and market volatility.
  • Stay informed on global regulatory changes impacting the chemical and agricultural markets.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Agribusiness, Chemistry, Sales, or a related field (MBA preferred but not essential).
  • 3 - 5 years of proven experience in sales strategy, business development, or commercial operations within the chemicals or agricultural industry.
  • Strong understanding of agrochemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, and industrial chemicals.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing high-impact sales strategies.
  • Expertise in B2B sales, client relationship management, and contract negotiation.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with experience in data-driven sales planning.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in CRM software, sales analytics tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
