Job Description

We have been engaged to source for a HR Business Strategist to drive the culture, productivity, and ambitious business expansion for a Management Consultancy firm who prides itself on serving forward-thinking public, private and nongovernmental organisations with innovative business solutions.

This is a role is a blend of strategic people management/engagement, business strategy, change management, and strategic partnerships.

Reporting to the CEO, the HR Business Strategist, would be responsible for the design of the employee engagement strategy that forms the foundation of extreme change management. This will be geared towards the establishment of a structure that will support both short and long-term objectives which includes the organisation’s expansion plans.  One of the key objectives is to build each department into profit-making business units and the HR Business strategist would need to identify the right people, set the tone of the employee culture, and implement organisational strategy to support the overall corporate objective.

The ideal candidate is a strategist with a strong business acumen and sees employees and their productivity as a conduit to business success. You should be able to demonstrate your ability to build a sustainable organisational structure, create positive work culture, and engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

We are looking for a data-driven HR Professional who is able to gather and translate insights to make factual business decisions with accuracy.


  • Establish a trusted partnership with a diverse set of stakeholders from C-suite level to business managers.
  • Deliver effective solutions across a range of HR practices such as workforce planning, performance, employee engagement, organisational design, and talent & leadership development and Employee Relationship Management
  • Own and manage all HR cyclical processes and ensure all Business-as-Usual (BAU) activities are delivered efficiently and in line with best practice
  • Partner with business heads on organizational design, workforce planning, succession planning, and skills assessment
  • Coach and advise managers to build high performing teams, with a strong focus on morale, increased productivity, and retention
  • Partner closely with department heads to resolve complex and challenging problems through innovative and agile thinking
  • Analyse and interpret key people metrics to drive insights
  • Ensure that the HR service is running as smoothly and efficiently as possible by drawing on best practice, external models, and knowledge to continually drive improvements
  • Create/Recommend an internal knowledge sharing platform where employees can openly share any work-related information.
  • Provide compensation support including salary planning, approval of salary actions, promotions, and job re-levelling.
  • Provide ongoing support to the leadership team on human resources related matters, policies, and procedures
  • Manage the budget of human resources operations.

Employee Relations

  • Evaluate and maintain corporate mission, vision, values, and company culture and drive change through the organisation
  • Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting, and administering employment contracts and helping resolve work-related problems.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward organizational objectives.
  • Provide direction, council, and coaching to build leadership capabilities to address and resolve employee issues.
  • Support line managers and employees in addressing all types of employee relations issues ensuring a balance in representing all parties’ interests.
  • Deploy a hands-on approach in effectively assessing the needs of the employees and driving efficient follow-up and reaction to those needs.
  • Review and analyse business unit data to identify trends and recommend solutions to improve performance, retention, and employee experience

Legal and Compliance

  • Implement/administer/interpret corporate policies& procedures in line with Nigerian Labour Law guidelines but embody globally acceptable standards
  • Advise managers on organizational policy matters, such as equal employment opportunities, discriminatory, gender, sexual harassment, and recommend needed changes.
  • Consult legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law.

Talent Acquisition & Mangement

  • Partner with managers to retain, develop and motivate people to achieve their fullest potential.
  • Drive the corporate culture of inclusion and diversity by hiring people that align with the company’s vision.
  • Develop a preferred supplier vendor list with outside suppliers to provide employee services, such as temporary employees, search firms, or relocation services.

Personal/Professional Attributes

  • A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the “pulse” of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement
  • Passion for innovative HR solutions and process improvement; Demonstrated experience driving processes improvements and specific skills in Kaizen methodologies preferred
  • Pro-active behaviour that demonstrates initiative and positive work ethic to ensure activities are delivered to the required time, budget and quality.
  • Commercial acumen: demonstrable understanding of business drivers and track record of taking actions that contribute to enhanced results
  • The ability to be comfortable with high volume workload and not be afraid to “roll up your sleeves”
  • Strong solutions focus and be comfortable working in an environment which demands strong deliverables along with the ability to identify problems and drive appropriate solutions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously – orientated on results
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience
  • HR Certifications (CIPD, SHRM, CIPM) or any related accreditation
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, recruitment, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and Nigerian employment laws
  • Sound experience in HR partnering in a matrix and regulated environment, preferably in Consulting, conglomerate operations, Financial Services or Technology
  • Experience conceptualising business goals and recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in business objectives, productivity, and development of HR within the company
  • Proven HR Business Strategy Implementation and who can demonstrate versatility and complexity
  • Experience managing across the full spectrum of human resource management
  • Experience with rapid and complex changing work environment
  • Strong project management skills: ability to lead projects at a network level to influence and obtain buy-in, and then drive execution and achievement of the right results
  • Success in creating and driving effective employee relations, retention and reward programs
  • Prior experience of successfully collaborating with global and/or cross entity teams
  • Ability to manage, build relationships with and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment
